Discuss the book and interesting topics with African American Studies.
On Wednesday, February 15th, 2012 the African American Studies Department at the University of Maryland, College Park will host a discussion based on the book “Malcolm X: A Life of Reinvention” by Manning Marable. The discussion will center on the following:
- What would be Malcolm’s analysis of the prison industrial complex or the New Jim Crow in the 21st century?
- Comments on Manning Marable’s book.
- The role of women in Malcolm X’s movement. Women have often been neglected in this discussion.
- Aligning of similar philosophies/ideologies between Malcolm/MLK particularly towards MLK’s death.
- US Military Industrial Complex particularly in the Middle East and Africa.
- President Obama’s presidency.
The program will include statements from our illustrious panelists, a moderated discussion, and questions from our audience and conclude with light refreshments.
The program will be held in the Nyumburu Cultural Center, University of Maryland, College Park from 2:00pm-3:30pm. The event is free and open to the University of Maryland campus community and the general public.
This program is sponsored by the African American Studies Department and co-sponsored by Consortium on Race, Gender and Ethnicity (CRGE).
